Tips For Evolution Emerging - Frankie Francis (Amazing Radio)
Frankie Francis, frontman of Sunderland favourites Frankie and the Heartstrings sure knows a thing or two about the North East music scene. After all, the indie rockers have been around for nearly a decade now, sharing stages with the likes of Florence & The Machine, Kaiser Chiefs and The Vaccines and playing festivals across the world.
Closer to home however, Frankie and his bandmates opened their own hometown record store Pop Recs Ltd back in 2013 and more recently, Frankie joined the presenting team at Amazing Radio. With his finger firmly on the pulse, we asked the man himself for his top tips for Evolution Emerging 2017.
1. What are your thoughts on Evolution Emerging Festival and the current state of the North East music scene?
I think it's great that Evolution Emerging showcases NE talent in an event this way, but I believe similar events should be more commonplace throughout the year. This event should not be seen as the best the NE has to offer but an example of where its at. I think the region at present has a healthy amount of artists developing and the next couple of years could see a strong number of acts establish themselves on a national and international level.
2. Who would recommend to watch at Evolution Emerging this year?
I'm looking forward to seeing as much as possible at this years event.Coquin (migale), The Old Pink House, Eat Fast, Fletcher Jackson would be the ones I dont want to miss and people reading this who have not seen these acts really need to check them out. I'm interested to see for the first time Cape Cub, Mony Tanero, Japanese TV club and Sagoboi.
3. Do you have any tips for first time festival goers?
Tips for Evo Emerging - Go down and support the event, then go and see your fav band from the event next time they play. Get to the venue's early for acts you really want to see to avoid not getting in or getting stuck at the back with the chatterboxes. Get cheesy chips at The Cluny. Always use plastic glasses and always take a packet of rennies as those cheesy chips will cause heartburn.
